HYALURONIC ACID

HynE beauty products collaborates with the pharmaceutical and research company Bohus BioTech situated in Strömstad, Sweden. Daniel Ogbonnaya is a chemist and scientist that founded the company in 1992 and has over 40 years experience in manufacturing and researching hyaluronic acid.
In the 1960s, Daniel came to Sweden from Nigeria to study chemistry in Uppsala. He was quickly handpicked by a major pharmaceutical company where he got the opportunity to partake in a project group and devote himself to researching hyaluronic acid as a full-time job.
After many years of working at the company Daniel’s thoughts about starting his own business started to materialize. In the year of 1992 he founded Bohus BioTech in Strömstad. The first years the company worked solely with manufacturing medicinal products for cataract surgery – at this time the hyaluronic acid was, simply put, extracted from cockscomb in order to make a so called gel. Today almost half of the company’s production is still directed towards products for eye surgery and it also manufactures products for the health care sector, especially orthopedics. To treatosteoarthritis hyaluronic acid is injected into the knee with a specially constructed syringe filled with hyaluronic acid.
Daniel had used hyaluronic acid on skin for some time and eventually came up with the idea that it could also be used in skin creams, since it had a noticeable anti-aging effect due to the moisturizing and smoothening qualities of the substance. The medicinal discovery sprung from preparation for cataract surgery turned out to be an anti-aging cream success.
In recent years the company has started to develop beauty products such as anti-aging creams and fillers to reduce wrinkles. For these products a bacterial hyaluronic acid is used, which is not animal-tested. Today research has progressed so that the molecular weight does not differ in any substantial way between hyaluronic acid manufactured in a bacterial as opposed to a biological way.
The acid that is produced with bacteria, and which HynE uses, is not extracted from cockscombs. Today Bohus BioTech has customers all over the world. The company has just recently established itself in Portugal and it has trade agreements with Brazil, several countries in southern Africa as well as in Europe.
